How to Install OPSI on Windows 10

OPSI is a solution for software distribution and management. The following tutorial will guide you through the steps to install OPSI on your Windows 10 machine.

Prerequisites

Before we get started, you will need the following:

Step 1: Download and Install MongoDB

OPSI depends on the database management system MongoDB.

  1. Go to the MongoDB download page at https://www.mongodb.com/download-center/community.
  2. Select your operating system (Windows).
  3. Choose the latest version of MongoDB for your system and click "Download".
  4. Once the download is complete, run the msi installer.
  5. During installation, you can choose the installation directory, but the default one is fine.
  6. Complete the installation process by following the setup wizard.

Step 2: Download and Install OPSI

  1. Go to the OPSI download page at https://download.uib.de/opsi4.1/stable/.
  2. Under the Windows section, click on the link to download the OPSI installer.
  3. Once the download is complete, run the msi installer.
  4. Follow the setup wizard to complete installation.
  5. During installation, you will need to choose the installation directory. You can choose either the default one or a custom one.
  6. After installation, the OPSI configuration tool will open automatically.

Step 3: Configure OPSI

  1. In the OPSI configuration tool, select "Configure server" and click "Next".
  2. Choose "Standard configuration" and click "Next".
  3. Enter a name for your new OPSI server in the "Server name" field.
  4. Next, select the database type. Choose "MongoDB" for this tutorial.
  5. Enter the database details, such as server name and port number. You can use the default values if you installed MongoDB on the same machine as OPSI.
  6. Next, set the OPSI administrator credentials.
  7. Choose the directory for the OPSI packages.
  8. Finally, select the repository settings. Use the default values, or choose your own location for the repository.
  9. Click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the configuration.

Conclusion

OPSI is now installed on your Windows 10 machine. You can now start using it to manage and distribute software packages. Note that there is a lot more to configure in OPSI, and the settings used in this tutorial are just the basics. Consult the OPSI documentation for more information.
