PassIt is an open-source password manager which securely stores your passwords and helps you manage them. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install PassIt on Windows 10.
Before we start, make sure you have the following prerequisites:
Download the PassIt source code
Visit https://github.com/passit/passit and click on the "Code" button to download the source code as a ZIP file. Extract the ZIP file to a directory of your choice.
Install the required Python packages
Open Command Prompt or PowerShell and navigate to the PassIt directory by using the cd
command. Then, run the following command to install the required Python packages.
pip install -r requirements.txt
Configure the environment variables
For PassIt to function properly, you need to set some environment variables. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell and navigate to the PassIt directory by using the cd
command. Then, run the following command to set the environment variables.
setx FLASK_APP passit
setx FLASK_ENV development
Initialize the database
To initialize the database, run the following command in Command Prompt or PowerShell.
flask db upgrade
Start the PassIt server
To start the PassIt server, run the following command in Command Prompt or PowerShell.
flask run
Access PassIt
Open a web browser and navigate to http://127.0.0.1:5000 to access the PassIt homepage. Create an account, and start managing your passwords in a secure and easy manner.
