How to Install Schleuder on Windows 10

Schleuder is a free, encrypted mailing list management software that can help you protect your privacy online. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the installation process of Schleuder on Windows 10.

Prerequisites

Before we get started with the installation process, there are a few requirements that need to be met:

• Ruby 2.4 or higher installed on your system
• A suitable mail server, such as Postfix, set up and configured
• Ruby DevKit installed on your system

Step 1: Install Ruby

First, you need to install Ruby on your Windows 10 system.

1. Go to the Ruby Installer download page and download the latest version of the Ruby installer.

2. Run the installer as an administrator by right-clicking on the downloaded file and selecting "Run as administrator."

3. Follow the installation wizard instructions to install Ruby on your system.

Step 2: Install Ruby DevKit

Next, you need to install Ruby DevKit to enable installation of Schleuder's dependencies.

1. Go to the Ruby DevKit download page and download the latest version of Ruby DevKit that is compatible with your installed Ruby version.

2. Extract the downloaded Ruby DevKit files to a folder on your system, such as C:\devkit.

3. Open a command prompt as an administrator and navigate to the Ruby DevKit directory by executing the following command:

cd C:\devkit

4. Run the following command to install Ruby DevKit:

ruby dk.rb init

5. After the command finishes, run the following command to complete the installation and update your PATH:

ruby dk.rb install

Step 3: Install Schleuder

Now it's time to install Schleuder on your Windows 10 system.

1. Open a command prompt as an administrator.

2. Install the following dependencies in the command prompt by executing the following commands one by one:

gem install mime-types -v 2.6.2
gem install ruby-gpg -v 2.2.2
gem install mail -v 2.7.1
gem install schleuder

3. Once the installation is complete, you can verify that Schleuder has been installed successfully by running the following command in the command prompt:

schleuder version

If the command returns the version of Schleuder, it means the installation was successful.

Step 4: Configure Schleuder

After successfully installing Schleuder, you need to configure it to work with your mail server.

1. Open a command prompt as an administrator.

2. Create a new Schleuder list by running the following command, replacing LIST_NAME with the name you want to give the new list:

schleuder create LIST_NAME

3. Follow the prompts to configure the list according to your preferences and mail server configurations.

4. After you have finished configuring Schleuder, you can start the list by running the following command:

schleuder start
