Umbraco is an open source content management system (CMS) that allows you to create and manage websites on a Windows platform. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install Umbraco on a Windows 10 computer.
Prerequisites
Before you install Umbraco, you need to ensure that your computer meets the following requirements:
- A Windows 10 computer (64-bit)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or higher
- Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, or 2017
Step 1: Download Umbraco
Firstly, go to the Umbraco website (https://umbraco.com/) and click on the "Download" button. On the next page, select the "Download Umbraco CMS" option.
Once the download is completed, extract the downloaded ZIP file to a folder.
Step 2: Install Umbraco
- Open the "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager" on your computer.
- Right-click on the "Sites" folder and select "Add Website".
- In the "Add Website" window, enter the following information:
- Site name: Enter the name of the website you want to create.
- Application Pool: If you don't have an application pool already created, you can create a new one.
- Physical Path: Browse to the directory where you extracted the Umbraco files in Step 1.
- Binding: Specify the host name of your website (e.g., localhost) and select the port number on which the site should listen (usually 80).
- Click "OK".
- Once the website has been created, go to the URL of the website in your web browser.
- On the Umbraco CMS screen, select the "Customize" button to customize your installation.
- On the next page, enter the following details:
- Choose a database: Choose a SQL server and database that you created before installing Umbraco.
- Name: Enter the name of your website.
- User name and password: Enter the username and password you want to use to log into Umbraco.
- Timezone: Choose the timezone for your website.
- Language: Choose the language for your website.
- Click "Customize".
- Umbraco will now be installed on your computer.
Step 3: Access Umbraco CMS
Now that you have successfully installed Umbraco on your Windows 10 computer, you can access the CMS by entering the URL of your website in your web browser.
You will be redirected to the Umbraco login page where you can enter the username and password you created during the installation process. Once you have logged in, you can start to customize and manage your Umbraco website.
