How to Install XtreemFS on Windows 10

Steps to Install XtreemFS

Now, let's start with the installation process.

  1. Go to the official XtreemFS website (http://www.xtreemfs.org/) and click on the "Downloads" tab.
  2. Scroll down to the "XtreemFS for Windows" section and click on the "Download" button to download the latest Windows installer.
  3. Once the download has finished, locate the downloaded executable file and double-click on it to start the installation process.
  4. In the Setup Wizard window, select the preferred language and click the "OK" button.
  5. Read and accept the XtreemFS license agreement, then click the "Next" button.
  6. Choose the installation directory by clicking on the "Browse" button, or leave the default installation directory, and click the "Next" button.
  7. The next step is to choose the installation components. Here, you can select which components to install by ticking the checkboxes or leave the default selection, then click the "Next" button.
  8. In the next window, you need to provide the configuration details for the XtreemFS setup.
    • Select the appropriate installation mode, either Single Node (for a single machine setup) or multiple servers (for distributed setup)
    • Provide the IP address and port of the server if you have selected the distributed setup
  9. Once you have provided the configuration details, you can click the "Next" button to proceed.
  10. On the next window, you can choose to install XtreemFS as a service by enabling the "Install as a Windows Service" checkbox. This allows XtreemFS to start automatically when the machine boots up. Click "Next" to continue.
  11. Click the "Install" button to start the installation process.
  12. Once the installation is complete, click the "Finish" button.

Setting up XtreemFS

Once XtreemFS is installed on your machine, you can start it by following the below steps:

  1. Open the Command Prompt or PowerShell as an administrator.
  2. Type the following command to start the XtreemFS MRC (Metadata Replica Catalog) service:
    xtfs_mrc.exe
  1. Type the following command to start the XtreemFS DIR (Directory Service) service:
    xtfs_dir.exe
  1. Type the following command to start the XtreemFS OSD (Object Storage Device) service:
    xtfs_osd.exe
  1. To access the XtreemFS web interface, open a web browser and type the following URL in the address bar:
    http://localhost:30638/
