Algernon is a web server software written in Go that allows you to develop and deploy web applications. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing Algernon on Windows 11.
Prerequisites
Before you proceed with the installation, ensure that you have the following requirements:
- A Windows 11 computer with administrative privileges
- An internet connection
- A command prompt or terminal application
Steps to Install Algernon on Windows 11
- Download the latest version of Algernon from the official website: http://algernon.roboticoverlords.org/
- Extract the downloaded file to a folder on your computer.
- Open the command prompt or terminal application on your Windows 11 computer.
- Navigate to the folder where you extracted the Algernon files by using the
cd
command. For example:cd C:\Users\Username\Downloads\algernon
- Type the following command to start Algernon:
algernon.exe
- Algernon should now be running on your Windows 11 computer. You can access it by opening a web browser and navigating to
http://localhost:3000
. If you see the Algernon welcome page, then your installation was successful.
Optional: Adding Algernon to your system's Path variable
To make it easier to run Algernon from any directory, you can add it to your system's Path variable:
- Open the Start menu and search for "Environment Variables".
- Click on "Edit the system environment variables".
- Click on the "Environment Variables" button.
- Under "System Variables", scroll down and find the "Path" variable, then click on "Edit".
- Click on "New" and enter the full path to the Algernon executable. For example:
C:\Users\Username\Downloads\algernon
- Click OK to save your changes.
Now, you should be able to run Algernon from any directory by simply typing algernon.exe
in the command prompt or terminal.
