Bareos is an open-source backup and recovery solution. It can be installed on various operating systems including Windows 11. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to install Bareos on Windows 11.
Before starting the installation process, make sure you have the following prerequisites:
You can download the latest version of Bareos for Windows from the official website http://www.bareos.org/en/. Click on the "Download" button at the top of the page and select the "Windows" option. Download the appropriate version based on your system architecture.
Once the download is complete, navigate to the downloaded file and double-click to start the installation process. Follow the steps below to install Bareos on Windows 11:
On the first dialog box, select your preferred language and click on "OK".
On the next dialog box, click on "Next" to proceed.
Read and accept the terms of the license agreement and click on "Next".
Select the destination folder where Bareos will be installed and click on "Next".
Select the components you want to install and click on "Next". If you are unsure, leave the default settings.
Choose the installation option and click on "Next". We recommend selecting the "Complete" option.
Click on "Install" to start the installation process.
Wait for the installation to complete.
Once the installation is complete, click on "Finish" to exit the installer.
After installation, you need to perform some configurations before you can start using Bareos on Windows 11. Follow the steps below to configure Bareos:
Open the Bareos Director Configuration tool from the Start menu.
Click on "File" and select "Connect to Director".
Enter the Bareos Director password and click on "OK".
Click on "Edit" and select "Director".
Add the following lines to the end of the director configuration file:

Replace <hostname>
with your computer name and <choose-a-password>
with a strong password.
Save the changes and close the Bareos Director Configuration tool.
Open the Bareos console from the Start menu.
Click on "File" and select "Connect to Director".
Enter the Bareos Director password and click on "OK".
You can now start configuring the backup jobs and schedule backups.
