DietPi is a lightweight operating system designed for single-board computers, such as the Raspberry Pi. However, it can also be installed on a PC. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install DietPi on a PC running Windows 11.
Prerequisites
- A PC running Windows 11
- A USB flash drive with at least 4GB of storage capacity
- Internet connection
Step 1: Download the DietPi image
- Visit https://dietpi.com/ in your web browser.
- Click on the Download DietPi button.
- Select PC as your platform.
- Choose the desired configuration and click on the Download button.
Step 2: Download and install the Etcher tool
- Visit https://etcher.io/ in your web browser.
- Click on the Download for Windows button.
- Open the downloaded file and follow the installation wizard to install Etcher.
Step 3: Create a bootable USB drive
- Insert the USB flash drive into your PC.
- Run Etcher and click on the Select image button.
- Navigate to the location where you downloaded the DietPi image, select it, and click Open.
- Click the Select drive button and choose your USB flash drive from the list.
- Click on the Flash! button and wait for the process to complete.
Step 4: Boot from the USB drive
- Restart your PC and enter the BIOS settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually Del or F2) during the boot process.
- In the BIOS settings, go to the Boot menu and set the USB flash drive as the first boot device.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS settings.
- Your PC should now boot from the USB flash drive.
Step 5: Install DietPi
- Wait for DietPi to finish booting from the USB flash drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your DietPi installation.
- Once installation is complete, restart your PC and remove the USB flash drive.
- Your PC should now boot into the newly installed DietPi operating system.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed DietPi on your PC running Windows 11. You can now use DietPi for a variety of purposes, such as media center, file server, web server, and more.
