How to Install DietPi on Windows 11

DietPi is a lightweight operating system designed for single-board computers, such as the Raspberry Pi. However, it can also be installed on a PC. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install DietPi on a PC running Windows 11.

Prerequisites

Step 1: Download the DietPi image

  1. Visit https://dietpi.com/ in your web browser.
  2. Click on the Download DietPi button.
  3. Select PC as your platform.
  4. Choose the desired configuration and click on the Download button.

Step 2: Download and install the Etcher tool

  1. Visit https://etcher.io/ in your web browser.
  2. Click on the Download for Windows button.
  3. Open the downloaded file and follow the installation wizard to install Etcher.

Step 3: Create a bootable USB drive

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into your PC.
  2. Run Etcher and click on the Select image button.
  3. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the DietPi image, select it, and click Open.
  4. Click the Select drive button and choose your USB flash drive from the list.
  5. Click on the Flash! button and wait for the process to complete.

Step 4: Boot from the USB drive

  1. Restart your PC and enter the BIOS settings by pressing the appropriate key (usually Del or F2) during the boot process.
  2. In the BIOS settings, go to the Boot menu and set the USB flash drive as the first boot device.
  3. Save changes and exit the BIOS settings.
  4. Your PC should now boot from the USB flash drive.

Step 5: Install DietPi

  1. Wait for DietPi to finish booting from the USB flash drive.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your DietPi installation.
  3. Once installation is complete, restart your PC and remove the USB flash drive.
  4. Your PC should now boot into the newly installed DietPi operating system.
