How to Install GitLab on Windows 11

GitLab is an open-source platform for managing Git repositories. Here's how you can install it on Windows 11.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

Steps

  1. Download GitLab Runner from https://about.gitlab.com/downloads/.

  2. Install GitLab Runner by double-clicking the downloaded file and following the on-screen instructions.

  3. Once installed, launch GitLab Runner by opening the Start Menu and typing "GitLab Runner" in the search bar. Click on the "GitLab Runner" icon to open it.

  4. You'll be prompted to enter the URL of your GitLab instance. Enter the address of your GitLab server in the "GitLab CI coordinator URL" field and click "Enter."

  5. Next, enter a runner token. You can generate a token by navigating to your GitLab project page and clicking on "Settings" > "CI/CD" > "Runners." Click "Set up a specific Runner manually" and copy the token that is displayed.

  6. Paste the runner token into GitLab Runner and press "Enter" to register the runner.

  7. Finally, start the GitLab Runner service by typing the following command into your terminal: gitlab-runner start.

Congratulations, you now have GitLab Runner installed and ready to go on your Windows 11 PC. Happy coding!

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
