How to Install Graylog on Windows 11

Graylog is an open-source log management system that allows you to collect, index, and analyze large volumes of logs and event data from your infrastructure, applications, and network devices.

In this tutorial, we will guide you step-by-step through the process of installing Graylog on a Windows 11 machine.

Prerequisites

Before we start, you need to make sure that the following prerequisites are met:

Step 1: Download Graylog

The first step is to download the Graylog software from the official website. Go to the following link: https://www.graylog.org/downloads and click on the Windows icon under "OVA/VHD/VMDK/AMI/Docker/Packages".

Save the file on your local drive.

Step 2: Install Graylog

Once the download is complete, extract the ZIP archive to a directory of your choice. We recommend using C:\Program Files\Graylog as the installation directory.

Open a command prompt with administrative privileges and navigate to the directory where you extracted the Graylog ZIP archive.

Run the following command to start Graylog:

graylog-server.exe

Graylog will start and you will see logs scrolling in the command prompt window.

Step 3: Access the Graylog Web Interface

To access the Graylog web interface, open your web browser and enter the following URL:

http://localhost:9000/

You will be prompted to log in. The default username is admin and the default password is password. We recommend changing the password once you log in.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Graylog on Windows 11. You can now start configuring your input sources and begin collecting and analyzing logs.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
