Prosody IM is a lightweight and easy-to-use XMPP (Jabber) server that allows you to set up your own instant messaging service. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps of installing Prosody IM on Windows 11.
Before you begin, you must have the following:
Visit the Prosody IM website at https://prosody.im/download/start and download the latest installer for Windows. Alternatively, you can visit the download page directly at https://prosody.im/download/windows.
Once the download is complete, navigate to the location where you saved the installer file and double-click on it to run it.
A security prompt may appear, asking you to confirm that you want to allow this app to make changes to your device. Click "Yes" to continue.
The installer will launch, and you will be prompted to accept the terms and conditions for the software. Read through them and if you agree, click "I Agree" to proceed.
You will then be prompted to select the components you want to install. The default installation options should be sufficient for most users, so click "Next" to continue.
Now you will be prompted to select the installation location for Prosody IM. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Prosody
, but you can choose a different location if you prefer. Click "Next" to continue.
Finally, click "Install" to begin the installation process.
Once the installation is complete, you will see a confirmation message. Click "Finish" to close the installer.
Prosody IM should now be installed on your Windows 11 machine. To start the service, go to your Start menu and look for the "Prosody" folder. Click on it to expand it, and then click on the "Start Prosody" shortcut.
The Prosody IM service will start running in the background, and you can configure it further by editing the configuration file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Prosody\etc\prosody.cfg.lua
