Typesense is an open-source, fast and lightweight search engine that is built for speed and ease of use. In this tutorial, we will go through the steps to install Typesense on Windows 11.
Before we start with the installation, you should make sure that you have the following:
Open your web browser and navigate to https://typesense.org/downloads/.
On the Typesense Downloads page, scroll down to the Latest Release section and click on the Windows icon.
Once the download is complete, open the downloaded file named typesense-server-windows-x64.exe
.
In the Typesense Server Setup window, click the "Next" button.
Read and accept the license agreement by clicking on the "I accept the terms in the License Agreement" checkbox, and then click "Next".
You will be asked to choose the installation location. By default, Typesense will be installed in C:\Program Files\Typesense
. However, you can choose a different installation directory. Click "Next" after selecting your preferred directory.
In the "Select Additional Tasks" window, you can choose to create a shortcut on the desktop and add Typesense to the system PATH. Once you have made your choices, click "Next".
In the "Ready to Install" window, click the "Install" button.
The installation will take a few minutes to complete. Once installation is complete, click "Finish".
Open a command prompt and type cd C:\Program Files\Typesense\
to navigate to the Typesense installation directory.
Run the following command to start Typesense:
typesense-server.exe --api-key=xyz --data-dir=data
Replace xyz
with your preferred API key.
This command will start Typesense and create a data directory inside the installation directory.
Once Typesense has started, open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:8108. You should see the Typesense dashboard.
