ViMbAdmin is a web-based application used for the administration of virtual mail domains and virtual mailboxes. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to install ViMbAdmin on Windows 11.
Before we begin, ensure that you have the following requirements:
The first step is to download the latest version of ViMbAdmin from the official website. You can do this by visiting https://www.vimbadmin.net/ and clicking the "Download" button.
Once the download is complete, extract the downloaded package to a folder on your Windows 11 computer. You can use any archive tool to extract the files, such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.
The next step is to configure Apache to serve the ViMbAdmin application. Open the Apache configuration file (httpd.conf) in a text editor and add the following lines:
DocumentRoot "C:/path/to/vimbadmin"
<Directory "C:/path/to/vimbadmin">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
Require all granted
</Directory>
Replace "C:/path/to/vimbadmin" with the actual path where you extracted the ViMbAdmin files.
Save and close the httpd.conf file, then restart Apache for the changes to take effect.
Before we can start installing ViMbAdmin, we need to create a database in MySQL/MariaDB. Open a MySQL prompt and run the following commands:
CREATE DATABASE vimbadmin;
CREATE USER 'vimbadmin'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON vimbadmin.* TO 'vimbadmin'@'localhost';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Replace "password" with a strong password of your choice.
Visit the ViMbAdmin URL on your domain (e.g. http://vimbadmin.example.com) in a web browser.
You should see the ViMbAdmin installer page. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. When prompted, enter the database details you specified in Step 4.
After the installation is complete, ViMbAdmin should be up and running on your Windows 11 computer. You can log in to the admin interface by visiting http://vimbadmin.example.com/login.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed ViMbAdmin on your Windows 11 computer!
If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!
Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
