Grocy is a self-hosted web application that helps you manage your household or small food bank inventory, meals, shopping lists, and more. This tutorial will walk you through the steps to install grocy on your Windows 11 machine.
Prerequisites
- Windows 11 machine
- XAMPP web server installed and running
- Internet connection
Step 1: Download the grocy files
- Go to the grocy website at https://grocy.info/.
- Click on the "Download" button on the menu bar.
- Select "grocy" to download the latest release version.
Step 2: Install grocy
Extract the downloaded grocy zip file to the XAMPP htdocs
directory. For example, if XAMPP is installed in the C:\xampp
directory, extract the zip file to C:\xampp\htdocs\grocy
.
Rename the extracted grocy directory to something shorter like "grocy" to easily access from your web browser.
Step 3: Create a new MySQL database
- Open your web browser and go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/.
- Click on the "New" button on the menu bar.
- Enter a database name, e.g. "grocy", and click create.
- Select the newly created database from the left sidebar.
- Click on the "Import" button on the menu bar.
- Click on the "Choose File" button and select the
grocy\data\mysql\grocy.sql
file.
- Click the "Go" button to import the SQL file.
Step 4: Configure grocy
- Open the renamed grocy directory from your web browser, e.g. http://localhost/grocy
- Follow the grocy setup wizard to configure your grocy installation. You will be prompted to enter your database credentials, choose a language, time zone, and configure other settings.
- After the setup is complete, you will be redirected to the grocy homepage.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed grocy on your Windows 11 machine! You can now use grocy to manage your household or small food bank inventory.
