How to Install Coppermine on macOS

Coppermine is a popular open-source photo gallery software that allows users to create and manage their photo albums easily. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing Coppermine on macOS.

Prerequisites:

Before installing Coppermine, you need to have the following prerequisites:

Step 1: Download Coppermine

The first step is to download the latest version of Coppermine. You can download it from the official Coppermine website.

Step 2: Extract and Upload Coppermine

Once you have downloaded Coppermine, extract the files, and upload them to your webserver. You can use an FTP client like Filezilla to transfer the files.

Step 3: Set Up a Database

Coppermine needs a MySQL or MariaDB database to store images and data. You can create a new database using your web hosting control panel and create a new user with full privileges on this database.

Step 4: Configure Coppermine

Next, open the Coppermine folder on your webserver and find the file "include/config.inc.php". Rename this file to "include/config.inc.php.bak". Then, copy the file "include/config.inc.php.dist" and rename it to "include/config.inc.php".

Now, edit the "include/config.inc.php" file using a text editor and add your database details, including the hostname, database name, username, and password.

Step 5: Set Up Permissions

To ensure that Coppermine can write files to your webserver, you need to set up the correct permissions. Set the permissions of the "albums" folder and all its subfolders to "777". You can do this using the command:

chmod -R 777 albums/

Step 6: Run the Installer

Finally, open your web browser and go to the Coppermine installation URL, followed by "/installer.php". For example, if you uploaded Coppermine to your domain "example.com", the installation URL would be:

http://example.com/coppermine/installer.php

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process. Once the installation is complete, make sure to delete the "installer.php" file from your server.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Coppermine on your macOS machine. You can now start creating your photo albums and galleries.
