Installing I Librarian on macOS

I Librarian is an open-source reference management software that allows you to save and organize your research articles and PDFs. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing I Librarian on a macOS system.

Steps

  1. Download the latest version of I Librarian from the official website: https://i-librarian.net/download/. Click on the "Download" button to save the file to your computer.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file and move the I Librarian folder to your web server's document directory. For MAMP users, the document directory is located in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs. For XAMPP users, the document directory is located in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs.
  3. Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost/i-librarian/ to launch the I Librarian installation wizard.
  4. Select your preferred language and click on the "Next" button.
  5. The installer will check the system requirements and ensure that all prerequisites are installed. If any requirements are missing or outdated, the installer will prompt you to install or update them.
  6. Enter the database information. You will need to create a new database and user for I Librarian to use. If you're using MAMP, you can access phpMyAdmin by going to http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/. If you're using XAMPP, you can access phpMyAdmin by going to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/. Enter the database name, username, and password in the installer, then click "Test Connection" to make sure the information is correct.
  7. Enter the admin login information. You will need to create a new admin account for I Librarian to use. Enter the desired username and password in the installer.
  8. Configure advanced settings (if desired). The installer will offer several advanced settings for users who want to customize their I Librarian installation. These settings include configuring email settings and choosing where to store files and thumbnails.
  9. Click on the "Install" button to begin the installation process. Wait until the installation is complete.
  10. Navigate to http://localhost/i-librarian/ to access I Librarian. Enter the admin login information you created in step 7 to log in.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed I Librarian on your macOS system. You can now use I Librarian to store and organize your research articles and PDFs.
