How to Install KitchenOwl on macOS

KitchenOwl is an open-source recipe manager that helps you keep all of your recipes organized in one place. In this tutorial, we'll walk through the steps to install KitchenOwl on macOS.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, make sure that you have the following:

Step 1: Download KitchenOwl jar file

  1. Open your web browser and go to https://tombursch.github.io/kitchenowl/.
  2. Click on the "Download" button, which is located at the top of the page.
  3. Select the latest version of KitchenOwl, which is currently "kitchenowl-0.4.2.jar".
  4. Once downloaded, move the kitchenowl-0.4.2.jar file to a location of your choosing.

Step 2: Install KitchenOwl

  1. Open Terminal on your macOS computer.
  2. Navigate to the directory where you saved the kitchenowl-0.4.2.jar file. For example, if you saved the file to your Downloads folder, enter the following command: cd Downloads
  3. Run the following command to install KitchenOwl:
java -jar kitchenowl-0.4.2.jar
  1. Once you run the command, KitchenOwl will start up.

Step 3: Use KitchenOwl

  1. Once KitchenOwl starts up, you'll see the main screen.
  2. Click on the "Create a new account" button to create a new account.
  3. Once you're logged in, you can start adding recipes to KitchenOwl.
