OpenVPN is one of the most widely used open-source VPN (Virtual Private Network) solutions. In this tutorial, we will show you how to install OpenVPN on macOS.
Prerequisites
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
- A macOS device
- Admin access to your macOS device
- A stable internet connection
Step 1: Download OpenVPN
To download OpenVPN, visit the official website at https://community.openvpn.net. Once on the website, click on the "Download" tab, and select the appropriate download for macOS.
Step 2: Install OpenVPN
- Open the downloaded .dmg file. Double-click on the "OpenVPN Connect.pkg" file to start the installation process.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install OpenVPN.
- Click "Continue" to move to the next screen.
- Agree to the license agreement by clicking "Agree."
- Click "Install" and enter your credentials when prompted to do so.
- Once the installation process is complete, click "Close."
Step 3: Configure OpenVPN
- Launch the "OpenVPN Connect" application.
- Click "File" and "Import Profile."
- Navigate to the location of your OpenVPN configuration files.
- Select the configuration file you want to use and click "Open."
- Enter your OpenVPN login credentials if prompted.
- Click "Connect" to establish the VPN connection.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed and configured OpenVPN on your macOS device. You can now browse the internet securely and safely while connected to your OpenVPN server.
