How to Install OpenShift on macOS

OpenShift is a popular container application platform that supports a wide range of programming languages and frameworks, such as Node.js, Ruby, Python, and more. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of installing OpenShift on a macOS computer.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, ensure that your macOS computer meets the following requirements:

Steps

  1. Download and install the OpenShift command-line interface (CLI). You can download the CLI from the official OpenShift website at https://www.openshift.com/products/cli. Choose the macOS version and follow the installation instructions.

  2. Open a terminal window on your macOS computer and enter the following command to initialize the Docker environment:

docker-machine start default
  1. Then enter the following command to set the environment variables:
eval $(docker-machine env default)
  1. Start OpenShift by entering the following command in the terminal window:
oc cluster up
  1. Wait for a few seconds until OpenShift starts up. You should see a message in the terminal window indicating that the OpenShift server is running.

  2. Now, you can access the OpenShift console by navigating to the following URL in your web browser:

https://127.0.0.1:8443/console/
  1. To login, use the credentials that were generated during the OpenShift installation process. You should be able to see the web console and explore OpenShift's features.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed OpenShift on your macOS computer. You can now start building and deploying containerized applications using OpenShift.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
