Peppermint is a lightweight and fast operating system based on Ubuntu Linux. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to install Peppermint on macOS using VirtualBox.
Firstly, you need to install VirtualBox on your macOS system. VirtualBox is a free and open-source virtualization software that can create a new virtual machine for the Peppermint OS installation.
Go to the official website https://www.virtualbox.org and download the latest stable version of VirtualBox for macOS. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install it on your macOS system.
After installing VirtualBox, launch the software and click on the "New" button to create a new virtual machine.
Enter "Peppermint" in the "Name" field and select "Linux" as the "Type" field. Choose "Ubuntu (64-bit)" as the "Version" field since Peppermint is based on Ubuntu. Click "Next."
In the "Memory size" field, allocate at least 1024 MB of RAM for the virtual machine. You can allocate more or less RAM based on your system configuration, but 1024 MB is sufficient for running the Peppermint OS. Click "Next."
In the "Hard disk" field, select the "Create a virtual hard disk now" option and click "Create." Choose "VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)" as the hard disk type and click "Next."
In the "File location and size" field, leave the default location and set the virtual hard disk size to at least 10 GB. You can allocate more or less hard disk space based on your requirements. Click "Create" to create the virtual hard disk.
Select the newly created virtual machine and click on the "Settings" button.
In the "Storage" tab, click on the "Empty" CD/DVD icon under the "Controller: IDE" section. Click on "Choose Virtual Optical Disk File" and select the Peppermint ISO file that you downloaded earlier.
In the "System" tab, select the "Acceleration" tab and check the "Enable VT-x/AMD-V" and "Enable Nested Paging" options.
Click "OK" to save the changes.
Select the Peppermint virtual machine and click on the "Start" button to launch the virtual machine. The Peppermint installation process will start.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install Peppermint on the virtual machine. When prompted, select the "Erase disk and install Peppermint" option and follow the rest of the installation process.
Once the installation is complete, you can start using Peppermint on your macOS system.
