How to Install Psono on macOS

Psono is a free, open-source password manager that can be used to securely store passwords and other sensitive data. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to install Psono on macOS.

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Psono website at https://psono.com/.
  2. Click the Download button in the navigation bar.
  3. Scroll down to the "Download Psono Server" section and click the "macOS" button.
  4. The download will start automatically. Once it has finished, open the Downloads folder and locate the downloaded file, which should be named something like psono-server-2.1.1-macos-amd64.tar.gz.
  5. Double-click the downloaded file to extract its contents. This will create a new folder named psono-server-2.1.1-macos-amd64.
  6. Open the Terminal app on your macOS device.
  7. Navigate to the extracted folder by running the following command in the Terminal:
cd ~/Downloads/psono-server-2.1.1-macos-amd64/

Note: If the extracted folder has a different name or version number, adjust the command accordingly.

  1. Run the installer script by running the following command in the Terminal:
sudo ./install-psono-server.sh
  1. Enter your macOS device password when prompted and press enter.
  2. Wait for the installation process to complete. This may take a few minutes and you will see a lot of output in the Terminal.
  3. Once the installation is complete, start the Psono server by running the following command in the Terminal:
sudo systemctl start psono-server
  1. Verify that the server has started successfully by running the following command in the Terminal:
sudo systemctl status psono-server

  1. Open a web browser and go to http://localhost:8585. You should see the Psono login page.
  2. Create a new user account by clicking the "Sign up" link on the login page and follow the instructions.
