Takahē is a free and open-source keyboard firmware that enables you to customize your mechanical keyboard. Here's how to install Takahē on macOS:
Before you start, make sure you have the following installed on your macOS:
Open Terminal and run the following command to install AVR-GCC using Homebrew:
brew tap osx-cross/avr
brew install avr-gcc
Run the following command to install dfu-programmer using Homebrew:
brew install dfu-programmer
Go to the official Takahē website at https://jointakahe.org/ and click the "Download" button. Extract the downloaded file to a folder of your choosing.
Connect your mechanical keyboard to your macOS using a USB cable.
Open Terminal and navigate to the folder where you extracted Takahē. Run the following command to flash the firmware onto your keyboard:
make dfu
The command will compile the firmware and upload it to your keyboard. Once the upload is complete, your keyboard will restart automatically.
Takahē comes with a number of configuration options that you can customize to your liking. Refer to the Takahē documentation for more information.
