Prerequisites

Before we begin, make sure you have the following installed on your macOS:

Steps

  2. Update Homebrew package manager by running the command:

    brew update

  3. Install vSMTP by running the command:

    brew install vsmtp

This will download and install vSMTP and any dependencies it needs to run.

  4. Run vSMTP by running the command:

    vsmtp

This will start the vSMTP mail transfer agent on your computer.

  5. Verify that vSMTP is running by sending a test email.

echo "Test email" | vsmtp send myemail@example.com

  6. If a test email was successfully sent, then vSMTP has been installed and is working properly on your macOS.

If you want to self-host in an easy, hands free way, need an external IP address, or simply want your data in your own hands, give IPv6.rs a try!

Alternatively, for the best virtual desktop, try Shells!
